The STEP® Heating Element


STEP® Heating Element is a strong, thin (1.2 mm), flat and flexible plastic mat that provides even heat with no hot spots. The Element is constructed of two parallel bus braids, which are embedded along each edge to deliver 24 volt power to the Nano-carbon polymer blend. The heating element itself has in its composition molecular particles distributed in a homogenous manner than when in contact with one another permits the passage of electrical current due to its semi-conductive configuration. The Element is protected with a pair of layers of chemical-resistant and a water-resistant insulation. Slots are fabricated into the STEP® Elements in order to increase flexibility.

The STEP® Heating Element output wattage varies, and the different types are engineered in order to accommodate the heating solution at hand. Our residential radiant floor heating element produces 7.8 W/ ft. and is used for most interior, whole home or floor warming applications. It is certified for use under hardwood floors and carpet. The different element types can be used for residential heating, commercial heating, roof de-icing and snow melting applications.

Safe, Extra-Low Voltage: The STEP® Heating Element runs on 24 volt AC or DC power making it completely safe during installation as well as during operation. The Element can be punctured, nailed, stapled, or screwed through without damaging its heating properties and can never overheat.

Extremely Durable & Versatile: Utilizing STEP Warmfloor® allows for the most versatile installation options. The STEP® Heating Element flexible, yet durable, and is available in different widths to accommodate different sized areas and specific heating applications. The Element gets delivered on a roll, then cut on-site to fit precisely into place. They then get field-wired which allows every system to be a perfect fit for any space, guaranteed.

Waterproof Insulation: The Elements are protected by a water-resistant insulation and can be placed in showers, garages, basements or in concrete. The extension wires are 'marine grade', tinned copper wire which allows the system to withstand any wetness.

Being self-regulating, the element will vary the heat it generates relative to the surrounding temperature. The colder the temperature, the higher the heat output and inversely, the warmer the temperature, the lower the heat output. This self-regulating characteristic allows the STEP® Heating Element to provide even, gentle heating with no burnout as typical of constant wattage heating elements. In addition, this even heat-output allows the STEP® Heating Element to be safely used under any floor type.

The Nano-carbon polymer constitutive of the heating elements has in its composition molecular particles distributed in a homogeneous manner that when in contact with one another permits the passage of electrical current due to its semi-conductive configurations. When the ambient temperature increases, the morphology of the polymer structure changes and the particles separate, reducing the points of contact between each other. As the electrical resistance increases less current can circulate and the emission of heat decreases. When the ambient temperature is cold, these particles are closer to one another permitting a greater passage of electrical current and thereby generating more calorific power.
